Colonoscopy – the best method to evaluate all colon disease. It can also be used to remove potentially harmful polyps. The procedure is done under sedation to make it essentially painless.  Flexible Sigmoidoscopy – a brief office procedure that screens for potentially more troublesome colon conditions, such as polyps and cancer. Everyone over the age of 50 should have one, and many younger patients who have symptoms also need this test.  Guaiac Cards - checks for small amount of blood in the stool that cannot be visualized.  Our physicians perform all minor anorectal procedures including the new quick recovery, minimal pain hemorrhoid procedures.  All types of major colon resections are done routinely for cancer, diverticulitis, colitis, constipation, and other disease processes.  We perform more complex, function-preserving procedures for inflammatory bowel disease, specifically J-Pouch and Stricturoplasty.  We are experienced and adept with newer minimally invasive surgeries such as laparoscopy or Colonic stenting.  Our practice also is familiar with the newest diagnostic modalities such as rectal ultrasound, defecography, and genetic testing for hereditary cancers.  Latest surgical technique for hemorrhoids.

A colon and rectal surgeon has expertise to diagnose and often manage anorectal conditions such as hemorrhoids, fissures (painful tears in the anal lining), abscesses and fistulae (infections located around the anus and rectum) in the office.  Colon and Rectal Surgeons also treat problems of the intestine and colon and perform endoscopic procedures to detect and treat conditions of the bowel lining. Endoscopy involves the passage of lighted tubes through the bowel to evaluate and treat problems such as cancer, polyps, (pre-cancerous growths) and inflammatory conditions.
